lara FUNERAL SERVICE EULOGY September 30, 2017

Good afternoon ladies, gentlemen & our young people - thank you for your prayers & presence for the family at this service.

In writing this eulogy of our dearly beloved departed soul, Josephine Olayinka Olugbekan nee Odunsi, I can only give a glimpse of who she was and I hope you will each see a reflection of the lady you knew.

Sis Yinka , sister , Aunty , Mama Josephine or my senior, my classy iyale...was a woman of stature, substance & stamina.  A daughter, wife, mentor, mother, teacher, tutor, church worker, chartered accountant, friend, provider, advocate numerous titles!

In my dealings with her, I describe her as kind, generous, godly, talented, frank &forthright, a rebel for a cause, spiritual, calm, caring, candid, clean & tidy, intelligent, polite, punctual to name some!

She was hardworking, philanthropist, a keen traveller, a lover of history, art & culture taking particular interest in the work of young people known to her.
When you know her well enough, you will find she was full of funny bones!

She was an excellent cook / chef. Her efo iro is elemi meje (has 7 lives) or 9 sometimes, the best organic goat meat / what about jollof rice one in town...I could continue to fantasise on when next I will taste this.... but no longer!A determined cyclist (from the comfort of the settee ) - I understand that sister!
She loved cake but not ice cream although her freezer was full of it - thanks to her husband's love of it.
She was very accommodating, opening her home to many - thank you.

I want to focus on her character by likening her to 2 fruits: pineapple & apple.

When I first came into contact with her 20-plus years ago, I thought her to be a little prickly like the pineapple skin, then I peeled away the surface, to find a sweet, juicy, bubbly lady like the yellow flesh; I further discovered that she had core Christian values at her centre - love, peace, joy, hope, humility.

She was the apple of God's eyes and reflected this in her many different aspects of life - in marriage, at home, work or in charitable contributions.

She will be sorely missed very dearly by her husband, siblings, children, family & friends; and many many others who I don't know but that she impacted positively progressively.

It still quite unbelievable that she's gone forever only to be encountered in our dreams or in another's likeness. The day she passed away is forever etched in all our memories. We thank God for your uniqueness & believe you're at peace, set free from the ills of this world.

For us who continue to dwell on earth, what can we learn from her life & legacy? if each one of us picked one of her positive virtue the planet will be a more peaceful productive place.

My dearest in the Lord... sleep tight at rest - knowing that one day we shall all answer the Master's call... Simi mi sun re ni ese Jesu olugbalawa.

Chiazor Auntie Yinka September 29, 2017

Auntie Yinka I love & miss you so much. Thank you for everything you did for me in the time I knew you, you were truly a blessing from God. Thank you for opening your home to me, for letting me spend nights at yours where we all shared the best memories. Thank you for the perfumes, Versace & Victoria's Secret you got me for Christmas and my birthday. Thank you for all the surplus brioche, tropicana fruit juice, Haagen Dazs strawberry cheesecake ice-cream & for all the restaurant trips you took us to.
You were the best aunt one could ask for and always went out of your way to please the people around you. You showed so much support to us all with our education, our passions and interests in life. You gave me so much useful advice, including how to freeze yam which was very useful at uni Laughing You also gave me such great ideas for the future and I will always remember you forever

Olukemi Ojo Aunty Yinka September 24, 2017

My Dear Aunty Yinka,

Trying to write this tribute has been really difficult. I was deeply saddened to hear you had gone to be with our Lord. I'm so sad that I didn't get another chance to gist and catch up with you properly.  That will always be one of my big regrets.

I have very many fun memories of you - good memories I won't forget in a hurry. I distinctly remember when you tried convincing me that eating beetroot was delicious (I still have serious doubts about that one Lol!). I cannot believe I didn't write down your recipe for making Efo! You were such a great cook.  Thank you for all your encouragement while I was taking my accounting exams. Thank you for your career and relationship advice. Thank you for praying with me and for me. Thank you for treating me like one of your own and thank you for opening your house up to me when I needed a place to stay. You will be sorely missed. Continue to Rest In Peace. With lots of love, Kemi Ojo

Yewande Yinkus Babe September 17, 2017

My dearly beloved baby Sis.
Yinkus Babe.
You made my world a richer and happier place.
Everything changed on the 25th of August 2017.

Your chains are gone.
You've been set free.
Your God and Saviour has called you home, and you are forever His.

when writing this tribute i stumbled many times at an attempt, how could i possibly begin to write a tribute for someone who died too young and someone who had given me so much of they're time, effort, love and compassion. aunty yinka had a heart of gold and would try anything to make me be the best of my ability. she dedicated every saturday morning to me for the last months of her life and she tried so hard for me to be the best of my ability. she never gave up on me regardless of any setbacks or how many times i failed. she always had hope. she always believed in me and continued to believe in me. aunty yinka was dedicated, she fought for me everyday and she thought about me everyday she truly and utterly saw the best possible version of me and tried so hard for me to see that version of myself. never have i ever had someone close to me die before which i thank God for, but now that i have, we need to learn to show appreciation to people everyday, we need to learn to show  that we love people everyday, we need to learn to show gratitude to people everyday. we don't know what we have until its gone and we don't learn how much we love someone until its to late. aunty yinka didn't have any biological children but many that she loved as if they were her own. she was a woman of such love and compassion and would sacrifice her time for the benefit of others. i have learnt many things from aunty yinka, and one of those things is how to give without expecting anything back, how to love profusely, and how to care so deeply and i am eternally thankful and grateful. i would like to thank aunty yinka for everything she has done for me, and as she is looking down from heaven i hope i am making her proud and i intend to keep working everyday and to achieve the results that she believed i could achieve even if i didn't, so thankyou aunty yinka for believing, caring and loving me.
